Brave Rail Employee Receives Critical Injuries Amid Mass Knife Attack on Express Train

A courageous train employee who stepped in to protect travelers during a multiple stabbing attack on a high-speed train has suffered critical wounds, authorities stated on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

Surveillance footage reportedly shows the staff member trying to stop the assailant as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses described a terrifying 14-minute duration after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied passengers fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in custody for questioning. Police announced a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Response and Consequences

The incident on Saturday night led to 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Five people have now been discharged from hospital.

A witness recorded the suspect waving a big knife and being shot with a stun device as he confronted officers on the station. He was allegedly heard shouting, "Kill me, kill me."

“This awful event has created broad consequences. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the courageous employee of rail staff whose relatives are being supported by trained personnel,” said a senior police official.

Labor Response and Calls for Measures

Rail unions were quick to commend employees and call for more action. One union leader said he would be “seeking immediate meetings with authorities, rail employers and police to guarantee that we have the strongest available assistance, tools and robust protocols in operation”.

Another union leader encouraged the rail company and authorities “to move swiftly to review safety, to help the impacted workers, and to ensure that no incident like this happens again”.

Operator Commended for Rapid Action

The operator who halted the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been praised by union officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“The driver didn’t halt the train in the middle of two stations where it’s clearly challenging for the emergency services to reach, but he continued going until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much waiting,” explained a union representative.

Further Details

Police stated they received the first distress calls at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One observer described initially thinking if the situation was a holiday joke, but soon understood from individuals' faces that it was real.

Police have stated there is nothing to suggest the incident was a terror-related incident and have requested the community to come forward with any additional details.

Train services on the affected line are expected to experience disruption until Monday, with passengers recommended to postpone their travel where feasible.

Individuals with information that could assist the inquiry are asked to contact police by texting a designated number with a case code.
